Hand Lettering for Beginners

Simple Lettering Lessons and Practice Ideas

Terms of Use

Last updated: October 5, 2026

These Terms of Use apply to your use of Hand Lettering for Beginners (“the site”). By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.

What the site provides

The site publishes free lessons, practice ideas and technique guides about hand lettering for general information and personal enjoyment. We work to keep the instructions clear and accurate, but we do not promise that every lesson is free of errors or that you will get a particular result by following it. Pens and papers vary, so the measurements in the lessons are starting points to adjust to your own tools. Time estimates are approximate, and progress in lettering is gradual.

The site offers nothing to download and sells nothing. It does not provide fonts, worksheets or templates.

Tools, materials and your own risk

Lettering uses ordinary writing and drawing tools, and you follow the lessons at your own risk. Inks and markers can stain skin, clothing and furniture, and permanent markers can bleed through paper onto the surface below, so test a pen on a scrap first and protect your table. You are responsible for using your tools and materials according to their makers’ instructions and for keeping them away from young children.

Using our content

Unless stated otherwise, the text, illustrations and design of the site belong to Hand Lettering for Beginners. You are welcome to:

  • read and use the lessons for personal, classroom, library or other non-commercial purposes;
  • letter anything you like using what you learn here, for yourself, as a gift or in your own work;
  • share a link to any page;
  • quote short passages with a clear credit and a link back to the original page.

Please do not republish whole lessons or illustrations, sell them, or present them as your own work without written permission.

Basic strokes, guide lines and general lettering styles are not anyone’s property, and anyone is free to use them. Our rights relate to our own written instructions and illustrations, not to the general ideas behind them. The letters you draw by following a lesson are your own work.

Other people’s lettering and fonts

The lessons describe general style families and ask you to build your own letters. The site does not reproduce commercial fonts or other artists’ lettering, and nothing here gives you permission to copy them. If you believe something on the site infringes your rights, please tell us through the Contact page so that we can look into it.

Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the site. This includes attempting to gain unauthorized access, interfering with how the site works, sending spam or unlawful content through the contact form, or copying the site in bulk by automated means beyond what is needed for normal search engine indexing.

The site links to a small number of third-party reference pages that we think are useful. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the extent permitted by law, Hand Lettering for Beginners is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, from following its lessons or from using anything you make from them. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be excluded.

Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain how information is handled when you use the site.
